4 Reasons Why Blogging Is Important for Small Businesses
Updated: Nov 18, 2020
So you've spent the money or maybe your time creating a website for your small business but you're not seeing much traffic. This is a common problem for small businesses that don't have the resources to employ a marketing team. The good news, blogging is one of the easiest and free ways to bring traffic to your site. Do you already create a newsletter? If so, you've already fought half the battle. Many website platforms like WIX allows you to turn your blogs into newsletters with the click of a button. Think of your blog as an easy side quest to help you level up! (I've been gaming hard during Corona season...)
Here are four reasons to start blogging for your small business.
1.) Show you're an expert in your industry
Google is focused on the topic authority. What does this mean? Google wants to better understand user intent and to give the best possible return for the user's search result. Simply put, it wants to quickly answer the posed question by the user. How do they do this? They look for experts on the topic searched. What does this mean for you? Offering good content that educates and answers specific questions gives not only your readers a sense that you're an expert in your field and can be trusted and it also tells Google that you're a reliable resource for information on the topics you're writing about.
2.) Blogs boost social media engagement
Think of blogging as one more way to get more for your advertising dollars without spending a dime. Again, offering your readers something of value will give them an incentive to share. More social shares mean more traffic to your site.
3.) Build your email database.
If you're looking for ways to increase your email database blogging is a great way to do so. WIX offers a blog to newsletter integration that makes it easy for you to turn your blog posts into email blasts. Emails are still a relevant cog in the marketing machine. By adding a subscription option to your blog and asking your readers to take action by signing up you can easily grow your email list.
4.) Internal or backlinking.
This is one of the most important reasons to blog for your business. While it might sound complex it's really not. You can use each blog to link to topics in previous blog pages or to link to the most important pages on your website. Blogging also allows you to link to other high-quality sites/articles where you've found your resources. This is just another way to show your resourceful and the information you're putting out there is trustworthy. Side note: If you're linking to another site, email them to let them know you're doing so and ask for a link back. All of these back and forth links drive traffic and help to increase your topic authority with Google.
Have fun and get bloggity!
